Artmedia Gallery has the pleasure of presenting at the DIAF the work of Gretel Capriles and Zura Lagarde, two artists who have had solo exhibitions at the gallery in recent times.
At the heart of Capriles's Sentiment Journal series, produced in 2023 and 2024, is an introspective inquiry into the spectrum that defines human affectional connections. Her work traverses a range of feelings and states, including emotional disconnection, rupture, and healing—an enduring process that reflects the fragility and resilience of interpersonal bonds. Capriles has avoided compiling documentary references on this complex process. Indeed, her work is far from the intentional recording of dramatic real-life scenes: she has moved her creativity to a more abstract plane.
By her side, Zura Lagarde's The Silent Pulse Beneath Still Stone, dated 2024, proposes a sophisticated discourse through unexpected and poetic images, a collection of photographs that matches a metaphysical reflection on the becoming of beings and Nature with the pushing of the boundaries of photographic representation. She has used the four traditional elements of Nature—Earth, Water, Air, and Fire—as entrances to her visual speculations. She has based the last ones on specific objects and states of matter upon which natural energy and forces act as invoked by her practice.
