Press Release | The journey we took, Alejandro Maureira - artmedia GALLERY - Miami FL - 305
#6, The Wayfarer, 2011-2013

Artmedia Gallery is proud to present The journey we took, an exhibition that proposes a comprehensive view of the series “The Wayfarer” (2011-2013) by Alejandro Maureira.

Thanks to the synthesis that the medium of photography allows for, in this series Alejandro Maureira develops a sort of travel itinerary from the physical displacements that —more or less arbitrary and temporally spaced out? he will carry out around Spain throughout two years.

However, he did not use photography to record places, people, and situations, even though these are the subjects of his work. Instead, he used photography to manifest his affection for them.

The images in The journey we took  —and the series they come from— present a varied character and tone. They wander around photographic genders, from the rural landscape to an indoor scene, and going through the portrait and the urban view. They can be instantaneous or calm photographic approaches. They do not disdain the panoramic view nor the close-up. In essence, they comprehend in their essayistic format the entire experience and versatility of photography as a medium.

Then, Maureira achieves a multifaceted, fragmented, and discontinuous visual proposal that, maybe, could be perceived as the staging of emotional relationships among people, places, and things.
