The Silence of the Threads is the new exhibition of Claudia Ammirata at Artmedia Gallery in Miami. We are proud to present the artist whose body of work demonstrates her sustained exploration of photography as a medium of representation. Over the years, Claudia has developed her artistic practice through various conceptual approaches. She has also imagined creative installations to intensify the emotional and critical aspects of her public discourses.

When she planned to do this extensive work on wedding dresses and the brides who used them in the past, she defined her precise objectives and a concrete methodology. That is, she traced a strategy she shared with the women chosen to participate in her project. Then she started organizing and scheduling the necessary individual meetings for the photography sessions.

In every encounter, usually held at the women’s homes and occasionally at locations of their choosing, the artist was compelled to improvise the session's characteristics, including the selection of specific spots for portrayal, the arrangement of the dresses, and the poses of her models, always in collaboration with them. For these reasons, every photo session was an exercise in expanded creativity and, for every woman, a stimulus to forge a renewed relationship with her life experience. This particular combination of a concept and a working methodology, with risk-taking improvisation and an openness to free intuition, is the foundation on which The Silence of the Threads rests.

The artist's inventiveness in exploring each case visually, her ability to handle space and lighting in the collection of unique episodes she constructed, and her attention to women's corporeal and dress features in driving a personal and distinctive link between them allowed Claudia to build a multi-layered proposal of meaning. It is shaped, at the very least, by ritual, symbolization, time, and memory.
