The exhibition Sentiment Journal, launching the 2025 program at Artmedia Gallery, showcases the profoundly evocative and personal work of Gretel Capriles, a contemporary artist whose practice focuses on photography and video art. Over the past two years, Capriles has developed a body of work centered on the complexities of human ties and relationships, presenting a touching and sensitive exploration of these universal themes.

At the heart of Capriles's artistic journey is an introspective inquiry into the spectrum that defines human affectional connection. Her work traverses a range of feelings and states, including emotional disconnection, rupture, and healing—an enduring process reflecting interpersonal bonds' fragility and resilience. Capriles has avoided compiling documentary references on this complex process. Indeed, her work is far from the intentional recording of dramatic real-life scenes: she has moved her creativity on a more abstract plane.

Capriles has preferred to conduct visual research into the possibilities of everyday objects and exposed structures of material things to evoke and allude to human feelings. However, she is not interested in personifying these entities: she doesn't give them human traits. She used them as symbolic devices and vessels of meaning, inviting viewers to interpret and connect with the underlying sentiments these objects recall.

In each section of the exhibition, Capriles pairs a poetic verse with a small collection of photographs, weaving a layered narrative that employs metaphoric imagery to convey ideas and emotions. This strategy encourages viewers to engage with the work on a profound personal level, appealing to their inner experiences and resonating with their sensitive landscapes.
