About This Show

Opening Reception: November 17th, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM with Artist Lecture at 7:30 PM

Text features the work of John Chang, Robert Ladislas Derr, Tatana Kellner and Bárbara Oettinger Searle. This exhibition uses text - both legible and obscured - to create images that vary widely visually and conceptually. John Chang's work expresses the duality of his Chinese and American experience by juxtaposing traditional and unconventional symbols and images through the application of mixed media. Robert Ladislas Derr's video is a reaction to Sigmund Freud's essay The Subtleties of a Faulty Action. Tatana Kellner's sculpture addresses the issue of hydro fracking and its true cost to environmental degradation and human health. And Bárbara Oettinger Searle's photographs show glimpses of personal confessions and their subsequent destruction.

John Chang received his MFA from the Art Institute of Boston and lives and works in Southern California. Robert Ladislas Derr received his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and is an Associate Professor of Art at Ohio State University. Tatana Kellner is a founding member and Director of Women's Studio workshop in Rosedale, NY, where she lives and works. Bárbara Oettinger Searle received her BFA from the University of Chile and is currently pursuing her MFA at Pratt Institute. All are internationally exhibiting artists.

Searle's series "Blind Spot" is exhibited courtesy of ArtMedia Gallery in Miami.
